In the News:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — “Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown could spend the rest of her life in prison after being found guilty of taking money from a charity that was purported to be giving scholarships to poor students.
The Thursday verdict came after prosecutors outlined a pattern of fraud by Brown, 70, and her top aide that included using hundreds of thousands of dollars from the One Door for Education Foundation for lavish parties, trips and shopping excursions. She was convicted of 18 of the 22 charges against her, including lying on her taxes and on her congressional financial disclosure forms.
“Corrupt public officials undermine the integrity of our government and violate the public’s trust, and that is why investigating public corruption remains the FBI’s top criminal priority,” FBI Jacksonville Division Special Agent in Charge Charles Spencer said in a statement.” More here.> Ex-congresswoman may spend rest of life in prison for fraud
(Washington, DC) – “Judicial Watch announced that it filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of State for all records provided by them to Senator Benjamin Cardin’s office related to alleged Russian interference with the 2016 presidential election. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.”
The suit was filed after the State Department failed to respond to a March 2, 2017, FOIA request seeking: All records provided by any official, employee, or representative of the Department of State to Senator Ben Cardin, any member of his staff, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and/or any Senate Foreign Relations Committee staff member regarding, concerning, or related to efforts by the Russian Government to affect, manipulate, or influence any election in the United States or any foreign country from November 8, 2016 to present.
The Obama Administration reportedly spread information about alleged Russian efforts to undermine the 2016 presidential election:” More here.> Judicial Watch Sues State Department for Records of Alleged Russian Tampering in the 2016 Election that were Shared with Senator Benjamin Cardin
(Washington, DC) – “Judicial Watch announced that it has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice for emails of former Acting Attorney General Sally Yates from her government account. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
“Between her involvement in the Russian surveillance scandal and her lawless effort to thwart President Trump’s immigration executive order, Sally Yates’ short tenure as the acting Attorney General was remarkably troubling,” said Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton. “Her email traffic might provide a window into how the anti-Trump ‘deep state’ abused the Justice Department.” More here.> Judicial Watch Sues Justice Department for Sally Yates’ Emails While She Served as Trump Acting Attorney General
“A controversial billboard depicting President Donald Trump as a Nazi was funded with taxpayer dollars and was commissioned by an “arts advocate” paid by a U.S. city to “diminish barriers,” records obtained by Judicial Watch reveal. The massive billboard caused a ruckus when it was unveiled in downtown Phoenix, Arizona in mid-March because it features a menacing portrait of Trump surrounded by mushroom clouds—in the shape of laughing clowns—and swastikas modified as dollar signs. A pin of a Russian flag appears on the president’s lapel.: More here.> Phoenix Trump Nazi Billboard Funded with Taxpayer Dollars
“In a classic example of government waste, the taxpayer-funded program (Medicaid) that provides health insurance for the poor spends over $100 billion on “demonstrations” to promote the benefit that already covers millions of people nationwide. That’s an astounding 33% of Medicaid’s total federal budget for experiments and projects that supposedly help states test and evaluate new approaches to deliver the welfare benefit, which is already spread thin.” More here.> Medicaid Blows $109 Billion on Promotional “Demonstrations”

“An armed Russian fighter jet flew alarmingly close to a U.S. Navy reconnaissance aircraft flying in the Black Sea on Tuesday — just one day before Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Washington.

“The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has stated that: “No immigration officers will be allowed on campus without clearance from the superintendent of schools, who will consult with district lawyers. Until that happens, they won’t be let in, even if they arrive with a legally valid subpoena.”
Newsflash: The Department of Homeland Security is a federal law enforcement agency with nationwide jurisdiction. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers don’t need the permission of school officials to enter a public building in furtherance of their duties. Section 287 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) confers very broad law enforcement powers upon both ICE and CBP officers, including the authority to interrogate, without warrant, any persons believed to be an alien as to their right to be or to remain in the United States.” More here.> LA SCHOOLS TO ICE: YOU NEED A HALL PASS TO ENFORCE IMMIGRATION LAW
Foreign-born moms give birth to more babies than U.S.-born moms: “The rise in U.S births has largely been driven by immigrant women, and has been since 1970 — up to 4 million births in 2014 (or 23% of all babies), from 3.74 million in 1970, were to foreign-born moms, according to the Pew Research Center. Alternatively, the number of births by U.S.-born mothers has been declining, to 3.1 million births in 2014 from 3.46 million in 1970. Immigrant mothers are also more likely to be married than almost a decade ago — a third of all births were to unmarried immigrant mothers, down from 37% in 2008. Births to unmarried U.S.-born mothers were around 42%.” More here.> Foreign-born mothers give birth to more babies than U.S.-born mothers, and other surprising facts for Mother’s Day
“On today’s college campus, feelings rule facts and victims are heroes. As long as you feel victimized, you’re a victim! For those inclined to believe that, Ben Shapiro has some upsetting news: “Facts don’t care about your feelings.” Shapiro explains why, if you live in America, and especially if you’re in college, you’re almost certainly not a victim.” Facts Don’t Care About Your Feelings
