Below is the article from “The Intercept” about the hack by Russia and what got here arrested. It’s a lengthy read but well worth the time, pretty interesting.

“RUSSIAN MILITARY INTELLIGENCE executed a cyberattack on at least one U.S. voting software supplier and sent spear-phishing emails to more than 100 local election officials just days before last November’s presidential election, according to a highly classified intelligence report obtained by The Intercept.

The top-secret National Security Agency document, which was provided anonymously to The Intercept and independently authenticated, analyzes intelligence very recently acquired by the agency about a months-long Russian intelligence cyber effort against elements of the U.S. election and voting infrastructure. The report, dated May 5, 2017, is the most detailed U.S. government account of Russian interference in the election that has yet come to light.” More here.> TOP-SECRET NSA REPORT DETAILS RUSSIAN HACKING EFFORT DAYS BEFORE 2016 ELECTION

“The 25-year-old woman who stole “Top Secret” documents from the National Security Agency and leaked them to The Intercept appears to be a supporter of Bernie Sanders and other progressive icons, such as Bill Maher and Michael Moore.

Reality Leigh Winner’s apparent social media footprint also shows that she is a supporter of other liberal causes, including the Women’s March and the Islamic Society of North America, the Muslim civil rights group.” More here.> NSA Leaker Is A Bernie Supporter Who ‘Resists’ Trump

“Federal agency that is supposed to encourage agencies to comply with the spirit and letter of FOI law– is itself an egregious violator”

“Not only is the latest Freedom of Information (FOI) Act response I received from the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General (IG) two and a half years late—a response was required under the law in about 30 days—it’s also woefully inadequate.

In 2014, I filed a complaint asking the DOJ IG to investigate the unauthorized intrusions into my computers.

My employer at the time, CBS would not let the DOJ IG inspect the primary computer at issue: my work laptop. However, I provided investigators my personal Apple computer, which two independent forensics exams had found was also subject to the remote intrusions. Since the source of the intrusions was allegedly the government, I believed there was a chance that honest and experienced government investigators might be able to identify the perpetrators.” More here.> The Feds: Still Breaking Bad When It Comes to Freedom of Information law

“A former U.S. intelligence contractor has sued fired FBI Director James Comey and other current and ex-government officials, alleging the bureau has covered up evidence provided to agents showing widespread illegal spying on Americans.

The suit, filed late Monday night by Dennis Montgomery, was assigned to the same federal judge who has already ruled that some of the National Security Agency’s collection of data on Americans violates the U.S. Constitution’s Fourth Amendment, setting up an intriguing legal proceeding in the nation’s capital this summer.” More here.> Ex-intel contractor sues Comey, alleging FBI covered up mass civil liberties violations

“A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request by the Immigration Reform Law Institute (IRLI), the legal arm of the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), revealed the Obama administration released 564 illegal aliens convicted of sex crimes back into American communities in fiscal year 2015. (Washington Examiner, May 19, 2017) The FOIA data showed 194 criminal aliens convicted of sexual assault, 95 convicted for a commercialized sexual offense, and 275 for “other sexual offenses.”  More from this update and more here.> Legislative Update: 6/06/2017
