LAS VEGAS (Reuters) – “Visiting Las Vegas on Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump praised the bravery of survivors who risked their lives to help other victims as bullets rained down from a nearby hotel during Sunday night’s deadly shooting spree.

“Things have taken a turn for the dramatic in the ongoing bribery trial involving Democratic Senator Bob Menendez. Prosecutors say he accepted bribes from a deep-pocketed benefactor and in return lobbied government officials to benefit his “hermano.”

“As part of a four-day operation that ended last Wednesday, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officers arrested 498 individuals from 42 countries for federal immigration violations in cities across the country. (ICE News Release, Sept. 28, 2017) Operation Safe City focused on notable sanctuary jurisdictions where ICE deportation officers are denied access to jails and detainers are not honored, in violation of federal immigration law. (Id.) “Sanctuary jurisdictions that do not honor detainers or allow us access to jails and prisons are shielding criminal aliens from immigration enforcement and creating a magnet for illegal immigration,” said ICE Acting Director Tom Homan. (Id.) “As a result, ICE is forced to dedicate more resources to conduct at-large arrests in these communities.” (Id.) The operation specifically targeted individuals who have violated U.S. immigration laws, prioritizing aliens with criminal convictions, pending criminal charges, known gang members, immigration fugitives, and illegal reentrants. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — “Locked out of his home and with nowhere else to go, Wilfredo Ortiz Marrero rode out Hurricane Maria inside a Jeep, which was lifted off its wheels by floodwaters in the parking lot. He then endured days without enough food or running water.

The lights are back on at his residence for low-income elderly people in the San Juan suburb of Trujillo Alta, and food has started arriving, but he still waits as long as he can each night to leave the company of others in the lobby.
