Today Is Military Spouses Appreciation Day. Here’s Why You Should Celebrate

May is Military Appreciation Month, and today, May 11, is national Military Spouse Appreciation Day.

And while it’s important to honor military members and their families every day, today is particularly important.

President Trump commemorated National Military Spouse Day on Thursday, calling the soldiers’ spouses in the room “an inspiration to us all.”

Trump administration gears up for Monday’s opening of US embassy in Jerusalem

The Trump administration says at least 50 staffers will work inside the United States’ new embassy in Jerusalem when it officially opens on Monday.

Senior administration officials previewing its opening told reporters the embassy will begin with a 50-to-60 person operation and grow from there.

The new embassy in Jerusalem is opening Monday to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Israel declaring its independence.

Trump vows to lower US drug prices by ending ‘global freeloading,’ taking on industry

President Trump on Friday unveiled his administration’s plan for lowering prescription drug prices, vowing to “take on” the powerful pharmaceutical industry while calling for an end to “global freeloading” that has allowed foreign countries to pay less for American medicine.

“America will not be cheated any longer, and especially will not be cheated by foreign countries,” Trump said Friday in a Rose Garden address.

Suspect detained in connection to shooting reported at California high school

A suspect was in custody Friday after a shooting was reported earlier in the day at Highland High School in Palmdale, Calif., the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Office told Fox News.

The sheriff’s office tweeted a male juvenile was detained and one person was shot in the arm. The victim was said to be in stable condition and was expected to make a full recovery. A firearm was recovered. Darren Harris of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office told KTTV the suspect was 14 years old.

Americans are taking more vacation time—why that’s a good sign for the economy

American workers took 17.2 vacation days on average in 2017, up nearly half a day from a year earlier, according to Project: Time Off’s annual “State of the American Vacation” report. Still, more than half of employees said they had unused vacation days at the end of the year—and the amount of vacation days taken remained well below the long-term average between 1978 and 2000 of 20.3 days.

Nevertheless, 2017 marked the highest level of vacation usage among American workers since 2013. And the average employee now earns more vacation time than they did a year ago—23.2 days versus 22.6 last year.
