In The News:
(Reuters) – The Dow Industrial Average on Thursday became the last of the benchmark indexes to regain record territory, boosted by gains in industrial companies on continued relief that fresh U.S. and China tariffs were less damaging than feared.
Nearly one-third of U.S. households reported financial stress in paying energy bills, according to the latest Residential Energy Consumption Survey by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA).
It should be noted the study was conducted in 2015 and the economy has expanded significantly in the last three years. Still, it coincides with more recent data that suggest many consumers are struggling financially.
As we reported Wednesday, a new survey from Bankrate shows that lower income homeowners often resort to taking equity out of their homes to meet household expenses, including utility bills.
According to the EIA survey, about 20 percent of households reported cutting back on other expenses, such as food and medicine, to pay an energy bill. Fourteen percent of consumers in the survey reported receiving a disconnection notice because of unpaid utility bills.
In the next three years, Amazon could open thousands more cashierless Amazon Go stores, according to a report from Bloomberg.
The online retailer currently has two of its automated grocery stores in Seattle, where the company is headquartered. Earlier this week, the company opened another location in Chicago. Amazon is also planning to open one in New York.
Sources with knowledge of the matter told Bloomberg the e-commerce giant is considering opening as many as 3,000 locations by 2021. Launching this many grab-and-go stores would put Amazon in competition with the likes of leading convenience stores such as 7-Eleven, Walgreens, and CVS.
Police responded to the shooting just after 9 a.m. at a distribution center near Spesutia and Perryman roads. Authorities arrived on the scene in just over five minutes of the first call.
A law enforcement official told Fox News the shooter may have been a woman and confirmed the incident was no longer an “active shooter” situation as of 11:30 a.m.
A law enforcement official told The Associated Press three people were killed in the shooting at the Rite Aid distribution center in Aberdeen. Raymond Fang, the trauma medical director at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, said the hospital received four people suffering from gunshot wounds. He did not elaborate on their conditions.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – A drunk wrong-way driver slammed into a motorcyclist at a busy Colorado Springs intersection, then left the rider behind to die.
“He struck the motorcycle,” said Lt. Howard Black with the Colorado Springs Police Department. “He then proceeded to park in the parking lot. He then left his vehicle on foot.”
The rider was left lying in the middle of the North Academy and Palmer Park intersection.
“When officers arrived on scene they found a motorcyclist in the roadway with traumatic injuries,” Black said.
The rider died a short time later.
The driver made it to a nearby 24 Hour Fitness before police caught up with him. Identified by police as 25-year-old Kevin Lopez, he is now facing charges of vehicular homicide and DUI.
“Dog the Bounty Hunter” is joining the manhunt for a man who allegedly said he wanted to “put a bullet” in President Trump’s head.
“Dog the Bounty Hunter,” whose name is Duane Chapman, told the Mansfield News Journal he was joining the search for Shawn Richard Christy, 26, a Pennsylvania man who allegedly threatened the commander-in-chief. Christy has been on the run since June 19 after allegedly threatening John M. Morganelli, the district attorney of Northampton County, Pa., and Trump in a Facebook post that has since been deleted.
The medal is given annually by the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research.
“The medal honors those who have made significant contributions to African and African American history and culture, and more broadly, individuals who advocate for intercultural understanding and human rights in an increasingly global and interconnected world,” the university said.
The medal is named after Du Bois, a 19th and 20th century black writer and activist.
The Fresno Bee‘s Mackenzie Mays has published an extraordinary investigation that reveals the State of California is keeping dozens of illegal alien sex offenders in a mental health institution rather than deporting them — often against their wishes.
The undocumented men at Coalinga State Hospital are in a unique predicament that seems to be nobody’s jurisdiction. They aren’t prisoners, they are “civil detainees.”
They entered the country illegally, committed crimes and served their prison sentences. But a state-mandated mental evaluation of sex offenders – a policy that went into effect in 1996 – put them in Coalinga instead of back into society.
NEW YORK – Hoping to restore the faith of those disillusioned by how the church has handled sexual abuse allegations, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York appointed a former federal judge Thursday to review its procedures and protocols.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan announced the appointment of Barbara Jones, saying many Catholics had told him they were feeling let down by the church’s hierarchy after a “summer of hell.”
The string of bad news has included a Pennsylvania grand jury report detailing widespread sexual abuse and systematic cover-up by church officials in that state, and revelations about sexual abuse allegations against a former archbishop, Theodore McCarrick.
Gab seeks to free humanity from the chains of Silicon Valley’s data silo, psychological manipulation, censorship, and ideological echo chambers.
Over two years ago Gab launched into private beta as a people first social network that defended free speech online for everyone. Let’s make one thing clear: our mission is and always has been to defend free expression and individual liberty for all people.
It’s time to rock and roll all nite – one last time!
Glam metal rockers KISS announced their farewell tour Wednesday — bringing the curtain down on their five-decade-long career.
KISS — formed 45 years ago — made the announcement during an appearance on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” and on their own social media accounts.
Dates and stops on the “End of the Road World Tour” were not immediately disclosed.
Politics/Deep State/Project Veritas:
This former classmate, Cristina King Miranda, in a Facebook post she later deleted, claimed on Tuesday that she knew Ford, Kavanaugh’s accuser, in school and that everyone knew about the alleged incident. (Miranda’s Twitter account has now been deleted.)
There was just one problem with this: Miranda’s recollection completely contradicted Ford. Over the weekend, Ford told the left-wing Washington Post she “told no one at the time what happened to her.”
Furthermore, Ford did not even name Kavanaugh as her 17-year-old drunken high school attacker until after he was nominated for the Supreme Court. She did tell her therapist about the incident in 2012, but she did not name Kavanaugh, and the therapist’s notes contradict Ford’s current description of the 36-year-old alleged groping incident.
Famed leftist lawyer and legal expert Alan Dershowitz said it was Kavanaugh’s accuser has a Constitutional duty to testify before the Senate and face the man she accused.
Speaking to Fox News Thursday, Dershowitz said bluntly, “She has to testify.”
“Nobody should be referring to her as a victim and him as a perpetrator until we hear from both of them under oath, subject to cross-examination,” Dershowitz said, “There is nothing more essential to American justice than the opportunity to cross-examine your accuser, to confront your accuser. It is in the Constitution.”
Since the revelation, the media has sought out other witnesses who were named by Ford. So far, every witness found has denied the alleged party or incident actually occurred.
Virginia Hume, daughter of Fox News’ Brit Hume, attended Holton-Arms, the same female preparatory school as Ford.
She knew of Kavanaugh then and has nothing disparaging to say about him. In fact, she was one of over 60 women to speak out in his defense. And now she just dropped the hammer on the latest allegation of Kavanaugh’s impropriety:
News organizations would render a valuable service if, whenever they report that someone has taken or proposes to take a polygraph, they reminded readers (or explained to them) that polygraphs are voodoo. Junk science. They are no more reliable than a pack of Tarot cards.
A polygraph measures your heart rate, breathing, and galvanic skin response. There is no evidence that any pattern of physiological responses is unique to deception. Polygraphs are useful to investigators trying to elicit a confession, however: if you convince suggestible people that these measurements are associated with lying, they are more likely spontaneously to confess when you tell them, “The machine says you’re lying.”
New Jersey Democratic Sen. Cory Booker is facing accusations of hypocrisy over his calls to delay the confirmation vote of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh amid sexual misconduct allegations, as he once admitted groping a friend without her consent in high school.
The senator, who urged the Senate Judiciary Committee to first let the FBI conduct an investigation after California professor Christine Blasey Ford accused the high court nominee of sexual assault over 35 years ago, once wrote an article detailing an instance where he groped a female friend.
As long as we’re going 36 years back in time on Judge Kavanaugh, let us NOT forget Bernie Sander’s RAPE FANTASIES and as an ADULT! And he nearly won the Democtat nomination for POTUS! ACTUALLY HE DID HAD THE FIX NOT BEEN IN FOR MRS.BILL CLINTON by the DNC.
This is a real essay that Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) wrote in 1972 for the Vermont Freeman, a long-since-defunct alt paper:
LOS ANGELES — Thomas Yackley fatally stabbed two men at a party. Kimberly LaBore took part in a home invasion that ended with one person dead. Virgil Holt killed his boss at a fast-food restaurant shortly after he’d been fired.
All are among the 20 killers serving life sentences that were recently commuted by California Gov. Jerry Brown, D. With barely four months left in office, California’s longest-serving governor is granting forgiveness to record numbers of criminals.
Brown has handed out more than 1,100 pardons benefiting a wide array of individuals, including those convicted of dealing drugs, driving while intoxicated and forgery. The tally is staggeringly greater than the totals of his immediate predecessors. Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger granted 15 pardons, and Democrat Gray Davis ended with zero.
Perhaps more remarkable are the commutations, which grant parole hearings to – and often spell early release for – criminals who previously may have had no chance of ever being paroled.
Brown has issued 82 in the past seven years, far more than any California governor since at least the 1940s. Criminal justice reformers nationwide applaud him. Victims rights advocates are livid.
Project Veritas has released the next in a series of undercover reports which unmask the Deep State. This report features a Government Accountability Office (GAO) employee and self-proclaimed Communist actively engaged in potentially illegal political activity.
Natarajan Subramanian is a government auditor for the GAO and a member of the Metro DC Democratic Socialists of America (Metro DC DSA). Metro DC DSA is a socialist group that works to advance progressive issues in the Metropolitan DC area.
Subramanian’s political activism may directly violate federal statutes as well as the “Yellow Book” rules which apply specifically to government auditors.
The Merit Act would greatly streamline the process for firing employees who are poor performers, insubordinate, or otherwise engaged in misconduct. Since the election of President Trump, the bureaucracy, including numerous holdovers from the Obama administration, has been engaged in an unprecedented level of obstruction, leaks, and sabotage.
These bad actors call it “resistance.” FBI and Department of Justice misconduct in the Trump-Russia probe and the Clinton email scandal is only the most visible component.
This is nothing new. President Bush faced similar resistance from the bureaucracy, and going as far back as 1986, the Reagan administration had to contend with a State Department relentlessly working to derail his foreign policy.
In the intervening period, we have been treated to stories of almost incomprehensible incompetence and corruption in the federal bureaucracy.
Rep. Devin Nunes stopped by ‘Hannity’ Wednesday night to weigh-in on the DOJ’s unwillingness to declassify documents flagged by President Trump; saying it’s “unacceptable” to defy the Commander-in-Chief’s demands.
“It’s quite clear Sean, this is not complicated. We have seen most of this information. In terms of FISA, it’s only twenty pages. All you have to do is make a copy and put it out on the internet,” said Nunes.
There is a push by Republicans in the Arkansas legislature to replace the statues that have represented the state in the U.S. Capitol for the past century. But one of the statues they want removed happens to be related to Arkansas Democrat Clarke Tucker, leading him to charge Republicans pushing for its removal with “petty politics.”
The state is currently represented by Uriah Rose, founder of the Little Rock-based Rose Law Firm and, more controversially, James Paul Clarke, a former governor and senator who fought for white supremacy to remain a the key doctrine of the Democratic Party.
Clarke is the great-great-grandfather of Democratic state lawmaker Clarke Tucker, who first spoke out against removing the statue when it was proposed in 2014.
Iran continues to wreak havoc in the Middle East by allowing Al Qaeda to maintain a “facilitation base” within the Islamic Republic’s borders, according to the U.S State Department’s annual Country Reports on Terrorism.
The report, released this week, reinforces assessments published in years past that not only does Iran enable Al Qaeda to conduct global operations from within its borders, but also remains “unwilling to bring to justice senior Al Qaeda members residing in Iran and has refused to publicly identify the members in its custody.”
On the surface, it would seem that Shia-dominant Iran would hardly have an incentive to partner with the Sunni-led Al Qaeda. But analysts are hardly surprised by the findings of the report.
Christians, citizens and at least one aid worker were brutally murdered by radical Islamic terrorists with ties to Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram in Kenya earlier this month. International Christian Concern (ICC), a group that tracks attacks on Christians around the world, first brought attention to the murders.
According to ICC, the terrorist group Boko Haram kidnapped several women in Kenya, including International Committee of Red Cross aid worker Saifura Khorsa, a Muslim, back in March. This alarming incident turned tragic when Khorsa was executed this week. ICC reports:
Brits want a tougher approach on UK borders. They want legal migration reduced by hundreds of thousands and want illegal migration stopped.
A study released today by Migrant Watch UK asserts that the annual number of illegal migrants in Britain is 105,000. However, only one-third of those are removed. This means that there is an annual rise of around 70,000 illegal immigrants in Britain.
The figures from the Home Office reveal that the year ending June 2018 only 45 per cent of those leaving detention were returned from the UK, whilst the majority, 55 per cent, were bailed or granted leave to remain in the country. And those in detention from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, only 22 to 28 per cent were returned to their home countries.
When President Obama embraced “Medicare for All” earlier this month, it was a remarkable moment. Not because the proposal will be adopted (it won’t) or because the price tag would bankrupt the nation (it would).
Rather, it was a remarkable moment because a former American president played the role of enabler for the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).
Indeed, Obama’s endorsement was a moment of great celebration for an organization that for years has plotted to hijack the Democratic Party and use it as a parasitic host to remake the nation.
Back in 2012, the Vice Chairman of DSA Joseph M. Schwartz and fellow Political Committee Member Jason Schulman published a strategy document that presented their dream of a socialist America and the political path to get there.
