North Korea must pay $501 million to Otto Warmbier’s parents, judge rules

The ruling Monday in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia is largely symbolic, though, as it is unlikely North Korea hands over any cash. It comes after Warmbier’s parents sued the Hermit Kingdom for more than $1 billion.

“North Korea is liable for the torture, hostage taking, and extrajudicial killing of Otto Warmbier, and the injuries to his mother and father, Fred and Cindy Warmbier,” Chief Judge Beryl A. Howell wrote in the ruling.

College Students Are Earning $127 Feminist ‘Quest Badges’ to Show Employers How ‘Woke’ They Are

The first course, Introduction to Identity Basics, teaches theories of “oppression, sex and gender, intersectionality, privilege, and how social identities inform what we know,” per the description. Among other things, students learn the language of “identity and power dynamics” and the relations between specific identities and lived experiences.”

Students pay $75 per course. But discounts are available, including for those who commit up front to the full program. At $127, this option yields a “Mastery Badge” that encompasses the other two, as signaled by its dual-star design.

“Upon successful completion of each course, students are awarded a digital badge, which can be added to resumes, email signatures, and social media pages,” the website explains. “Badges illustrate to others the competencies learned in a course.”

Walmart heirs promote charter schools among black community

While some black leaders see charters as a safer, better alternative in their communities, a deep rift of opinion was exposed by a 2016 call for a moratorium on charters by the NAACP, a longtime skeptic that expressed concerns about school privatization, transparency and accountability issues. The Black Lives Matter movement is also among those that have demanded charter school growth be curbed.

When NAACP leaders gathered to discuss charters in 2016, a group of demonstrators led the Cincinnati hotel to complain to police that they were trespassing. The three buses that brought the 150 black parents from Tennessee on the 14-hour road trip were provided by The Memphis Lift, an advocacy group that has received $1.5 million from the Walton foundation since 2015.

Triple Amputee Veteran Behind Border Wall GoFundMe Says He’s Received Lots of Hate Mail

“After Alyssa Milano and Jimmy Kimmel took it upon themselves to personally attack me it blew up in their faces. The left-wingers took that as their dog whistle and began attacking me, my wife and our children,” he told The Gateway Pundit on Dec. 24.

Last week, Kimmel called the hundreds of thousands of people who donated to the GoFundMe, which stands at about $16.5 million, “dopey people” and said they are “dipping into their meth money.”

Milano had tweeted: “Let’s #GoFundTheWall while not taking care of our veterans. Cool. Cool. Cool.” Actor James Woods responded: “Uh, this effort was initiated by a veteran, who not incidentally is a triple amputee. Just FYI…”

‘All alone’ Trump prods Dems to deal on border wall, as partial shutdown drags on

The back-and-forth on Christmas Eve signaled a stalemate likely to last through the holiday week and possibly into the new year. Trump, on a busy day of tweeting, weighed in with a social media appeal claiming he’s “all alone” waiting for Democrats to return to the negotiating table.

“I am all alone (poor me) in the White House waiting for the Democrats to come back and make a deal on desperately needed Border Security,” Trump tweeted. “At some point the Democrats not wanting to make a deal will cost our Country more money than the Border Wall we are all talking about. Crazy!”

COMEY, WARREN FALSELY CLAIM FEDERAL WORKERS WILL HAVE NO PAYCHECK THIS HOLIDAY

According to that guidance, the paycheck that most federal workers will receive between Dec. 28 and Jan. 3 covers the pay period from Dec. 9-22. The money to cover that pay period has already been appropriated by Congress and will be paid out as scheduled.

The only exception is in regard to those who worked on Dec. 22 after the shutdown began; they may see a paycheck that covers the rest of the pay period but does not include the hours worked on the 22nd.

Chief Justice Roberts weighs in on mystery subpoena clash potentially tied to Mueller

The dispute involves an unknown company owned by a foreign nation, which has fought the subpoena and appealed a related contempt citation. In a brief order issued Sunday, Roberts stayed that contempt citation and associated financial penalties pending a response from government lawyers, due Dec. 31.

While the substance of the clash between prosecutors and the company remains unclear, Politico reported the dispute seems to involve Mueller’s team. A Politico reporter in October overheard a person connected to the appeal request a copy of the special counsel’s latest filing in the case from the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals clerk’s office.

Morocco – Scandinavian Girls Butchers Arrest Foiled ‘Terrorist Plot’

One of them was apparently already arrested in 2013 as part of a crackdown on individuals who wanted to join extremists abroad, adding that they suspected this person had radicalised the other three.

Electronic devices, hunting rifles, knives and materials that could be used for bomb-making were all found in the course of those raids.

Morocco ensured European nations that it is stepping up efforts to counter security threats posed by the return of Islamic State fighters from Syria and Iraq. So far, some 242 out of 1,669 Moroccans who joined the militant group have been arrested in the major Moroccan cities in the past few years. Security services do admit that in the mountainous and rural areas they have less control.

Germany – Former CNN’s ‘Reporter Of The Year’ Winner Fired For Fake News

Germany, which has seen many small rightwing news outlets pop up ever since the 2015 immigration crisis as a large part of the voting public swung right and the media didn’t follow, is seeing one of the pillars of its ancient journalistic corps crumble to pieces.

The centrist-oriented magazine ‘Der Spiegel,’ which has a huge loyal subscriber base in Germany, has had to admit that it’s star reporter, Mr Claas Relotius (who in 2014 won CNN’s ‘Reporter of the year’ award), has been making up facts and quotes in his article ever since 2011 at least.

Woman Knifes Husband in Back for Taking ‘Too Long’ on Xmas Shopping: ‘Carved Up Like a Turkey’

The couple split up in October, but Simpson ― foolishly in retrospect ― invited his estranged wife to spend Christmas with him and his friend Stacey. At one point, Simpson went into town while the woman had some drinks at home.

“But it took me longer than anticipated due to the rush of last-minute shoppers,” he said. “By the time I arrived home five hours later, Sonia was raging.”

Sonia Simpson began berating her ex, and when Stacey refused to take her side, Simpson punched her in the face, fracturing her cheekbone.
