‘Empire’ actor Jussie Smollett hospitalized after attack; police investigating as possible hate crime
The Chicago Police Department told Fox News in a statement that a 36-year-old cast member from the television show “Empire” told them he was walking at 2:00 a.m. when he was approached by two unknown men who yelled out “racial and homophobic slurs.”
According to police, the actor told them the men struck him in the face with their hands and poured an unknown chemical on him before wrapping a rope around his neck.
The superseding 66-count indictment filed Tuesday reveals more details about how Bowers was allegedly motivated by hate. Before the attack, Bowers wrote a series of stridently anti-Semitic statements on social media, according to the indictment.
Bowers was particularly incensed, officials said, by the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS), a group that has long provided humanitarian assistance to refugees.
On Oct. 10, Bowers posted on a HIAS website listing Jewish congregations hosting refugee-related events, including the congregation in Pittsburgh, according to the indictment. Bowers allegedly wrote: “Why hello there HIAS! You like to bring hostile invaders to dwell among us? We appreciate the list of friends you have provided.”

Police were called on Friday to investigate after Cody Amato failed to show up at his job. Authorities went to the Chuluota home and found Amato’s family members dead, the Sentinel reported. Investigators determined Amato’s parents had been shot execution style.
Investigators tracked Amato down on Saturday and, after he agreed to an interview, he told authorities he’d been fighting with his family about the woman from the website, the Sentinel reported.
The snow plow driver has been placed on administrative leave as the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team actively investigates the incident, according to authorities.
The man was snow blowing toward the end of his driveway when he was hit by the truck, police told ABC7.
Allen Vail, a neighbor of the unidentified man, said the incident was both shocking and terrifying.
On Sept. 25, Unified police arrived at Ariane Christine Borg’s home and discovered her 17-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter “crying hysterically,” the Salt Lake Tribune reported, citing court documents.
The children allegedly told officers Borg “beat their cat over and over again and snapped its neck.”
Borg’s daughter told authorities in a November interview that her mom held “the cat by the legs and pounded it repeatedly on the table” before snapping the cat’s neck, according to the Salt Lake Tribune. When the girl tried to intervene, Borg, 36, reportedly hit her on the arm.
