In The News:
Detective Brian Simonsen was struck once in the chest Tuesday night when he and six other officers fired 42 times as suspect Christopher Ransom charged toward the entrance of a T-Mobile store in Queens and simulated pulling the trigger of his imitation handgun, police said.
Another officer, Sgt. Matthew Gorman, was shot in the leg. The shooting started as he and two uniformed officers retreated from the store when Ransom, 27, emerged from a back room and came at them, Chief of Department Terence Monahan said. Gorman is in stable condition.
Former US counterintelligence agent allegedly spied on colleagues to help out Iran, indictment reveals
Monica Elfriede Witt, the former agent named in the grand jury indictment, is from Texas and entered duty with the U.S. Air Force in 1997. She separated from the military in 2008.
“It is a sad day for America when one of its citizens betrays our country,” said Assistant Attorney General John Demers, the head of the Justice Department’s national security division.
FBI officials say Witt’s primary motive was ideological, and the indictment alleges that when she defected to Iran she said she was “going home.”
The five released are part of a 14 member negotiating team for the Taliban that will meet with the United States envoy for a second round of discussions to end America’s longest and costly war.
Some of those Taliban members released in 2014 and are now part of the negotiations have a troubling history that includes overseeing massacres and relationships with nefarious figures including Usama Bin Laden, according to the Military Times.
Many are concerned with the resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan and urge caution when it comes to the negotiations, including West.
He Stabbed His Girlfriend’s Stomach to Kill Her Baby, Won’t be Charged Because of New York’s Abortion Law
Hobson killed both the woman and her baby.
He was immediately charged with two crimes, but the charge for killing her baby was subsequently dropped:
it was noted that Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s new abortion law provides no penalties for the killing of unborn children; abortion was removed from the criminal code and inserted into the public health law.
Cuomo has not commented on what he has wrought.
Eric Huska, 58, was charged with involuntary manslaughter for allegedly killing his wife, Laura Huska, on Saturday by closing the lid to the couple’s hot tub while she was still in the water, the Daily Herald reported.
Laura Huska was found unresponsive Saturday evening inside the hot tub at the couple’s Wheeling home.
Surveillance video reportedly showed the Huskas drinking in the hot tub before the 57-year-old woman began making her way out. As she was struggling to get out of the hot tub, Eric Huska was allegedly seen trying to help her but then closing the lid.
Virginia caregiver, 60, raped and impregnated mentally disabled woman, may have other victims, cops say
Betts-King was working at the community center in early 2018 when he allegedly raped a 33-year-old woman who was under his care. The woman’s family went to the police after they discovered she was pregnant.
“A family member reported it to us after they took the victim to the doctor and it was learned at that time that she was pregnant. She is a vulnerable adult, she is incapable of giving consent,” Fairfax County Capt. Thea Pirnat told FOX5DC.
Police said there may be more victims after they discovered a second woman with mental disabilities who had previously encountered Betts-King was also pregnant.
Sullivan County Sheriff Jeff Cassidy told news outlets that a bystander at David A. Guy Dentistry in Kingsport then shot the man and held him until officers arrived. Cassidy said the bystander was legally licensed to carry a weapon. He called him a hero who “took care of the situation until police officers arrived.”
The sheriff said the woman was taken to a hospital after Wednesday’s shooting and pronounced dead. The man was being treated at a hospital, but his condition wasn’t immediately available. Police have not released any identities.
The verdict was handed down against Terry Allen Miles, 45. Investigators say he was living with the woman in Round Rock, north of Austin, to help look after her two daughters when they disappeared in December 2017.
An officer found their 44-year-old mother dead from blunt-force injuries while doing a welfare check after she didn’t show up at work. Investigators allege Miles repeatedly struck the woman with a flashlight, though he hasn’t been charged in the death.
Miles and the girls were found days later when sheriff’s deputies made a traffic stop near La Vera, Colorado, a remote area in the southern part of the state. The girls were 7 and 14 at the time and they were found in the car owned by their mother.
Law enforcement found the children Tuesday morning while responding to a domestic disturbance call at a property near Rhome, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) north of Fort Worth.
Wise County Sheriff Lane Akin said deputies found the oldest two kids locked in a 3-by-3 foot (90-by-90 centimeter) cage and the other two were filthy and only partially clothed. Akin called it the worst case of child abuse he has seen in his 44-year career.
Harkings was also charged with aggravated assault, and Fabila was taken to an area hospital to have “numerous lacerations on his face” treated before being jailed, the sheriff’s office said in a statement. She is the mother to all four children, while he is the father of one, according to authorities.
Pobuda’s death follows that of another 14-year-old, Kayden Stone, who committed suicide in September. DeAnte Bland, 16, died in June.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the second-leading cause of death for people between the ages of 10 to 34 in Michigan is suicide.
Beck contended that, while woman have been “speaking out” about the issue “for decades,” they have now been “effectively silenced” and “pushed out of spaces that we built, spaces that are intended to include us, simply because we acknowledge biological reality.”
“The L, G and B, are based on sexuality, sex, biological reality, but the T is based on gender identity, which is not based in biological reality. In fact, I would argue it is opposed to biological reality,” said Beck. “The LGB is very different from the T, and I don’t think it is fair to lump us all into the same acronym.”
An IBD/TIPP poll asked about “the public’s perception of the mainstream news media” and found that “fully half the country says its trust in the media decreased over the past two years,” while only eight percent say they have more trust in the media.
In worse news (for the media), more than two-thirds of the public, a whopping 69 percent, believe the establishment media are “more concerned with advancing its points of view rather than reporting all the facts.”
Only 29 percent disagree.
What’s more, nearly half (43 percent) of Democrats agree with that statement, along with an incredible 72 percent of Independents and 95 percent of Republicans.
Co-founding editor for The Intercept, Glenn Greenwald, weighs in on privacy concerns for Amazon’s customers.
Officials with Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Wednesday that Javier Da Silva Rojas entered the United States in May 2017 through a visa waiver program and was supposed to leave the country later that year.
Da Silva is charged with kidnapping resulting in death in connection with the killing of 24-year-old Valerie Reyes. Her body was found in a suitcase in Greenwich on Feb. 5.
The county board voted on the decision during a closed-door meeting on Tuesday, two supervisors confirmed. It was not immediately clear on what grounds the lawsuit would be argued or when it would be filed.
Since late October, the U.S. has been releasing asylum-seeking families so quickly that they don’t even have time to make travel arrangements, merely giving them notices to appear in immigration court.
Previously, the agency has said it has limited authority to detain families, referring to a 20-day cap on holding children.
The difficulties come as the conservative lawmakers on the House Freedom Caucus, who want more funding for the wall, said Wednesday they’re pushing for a one-week continuing resolution to fund the government — giving lawmakers more time to work out a deal with more wall funding.
“The conference report is projected to be thousands of pages long and was negotiated behind closed doors,” House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows, R-N.C., said in a statement. “We believe that members should be given enough time to read it before voting on it, so they can decide whether or not a better deal can be negotiated.”
A highly placed administration official told Fox News on Wednesday that there has been no decision to sign the compromise legislation – and that Trump, White House officials and Department of Homeland Security officials will first need the opportunity to go through the entire bill with a fine-tooth comb.
Mexican officials had offered caravan members a ride for the last leg of the trip – from Saltillo in the state of Coahuila, Mexico to the border. About 50 buses transported people to the city of Piedras Negras, which is just across from Eagle Pass, Texas.
Eagle Pass is busy. Since NAFTA, factories have sprung up on the other side of the U.S. border. What they make needs to be transported into the US. Goods and materials from the U.S. go over the border to Mexico.
Trains and trucks move back and forth all day. Then there are individuals. Many who work in Piedras Negras and might live in the United States. Many who live in Piedras Negras shop in Eagle Pass, so there is constant foot-and-car traffic across both bridges in Eagle Pass. All of this must be regulated by border officers.
Rincon has a Sisyphean task – 1,800 immigrants want to claim asylum. At 20 a day, it will take weeks to work through the caravan. That’s as other individuals and groups, people not associated with the caravan, make their own way to the border wanting to seek asylum.
“As we get new polls, it shows President Trump’s approval rating rising in the aftermath of the SOTU address. Today’s average is based on five polls, ranging from 42 percent (The Economist) to 50 percent (Rasmussen). Without these two extremes, it would be 45 percent,” he said in the emailed newsletter Wednesday.
And in an even better result, the latest Gallup survey showed that Trump’s approval rating is twice that of Congress, which sits at 21 percent.
Gallup said that the surge in approval was because independent voters have shifted in Trump’s direction.
McConnell told reporters after a meeting of the Senate Republican caucus that he has “great interest” in the plan, which would spell an end for coal, a key economic driver in McConnell’s home state of Kentucky, while promising new jobs for out-of-work miners and other workers.
“We’ll give everybody an opportunity to go on record and see how they feel about the Green New Deal,” McConnell said.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says the Senate will vote on the Green New Deal. Charlie Kirk and Nathan Rubin react on ‘Fox & Friends.’
Some critics using the ADOS hashtag have focused on Harris’s race, pointing to Kamala’s Indian and Jamaican heritage as a possible explanation for why, as a prosecutor, she supported policies that disproportionately harmed black Americans.
The ADOS movement does have some nativist elements. But it is also true that much of the commentary surrounding Harris appears to relate less to her racial background than her public record.
Indeed, people of color who challenge the Democratic Party from the left are often erased or dismissed as somehow not being real.
By controlling the DNC, the campaign contributions made to the national party qualified as donations to the Clinton campaign for purposes of federal campaign finance law, and if properly accounted for, they would exceed the legal contribution limits.
After uncovering evidence of this purported scheme, the CDP filed an administrative complaint with the FEC on December 15, 2017.
The CDP asked “the FEC to commence enforcement proceedings against Hillary Clinton, her campaign and its treasurer, the DNC and its treasurer, and the participating state Democratic committees.”
Attached to the administrative complaint were nearly 20 pages of Excel spreadsheets summarizing the evidence of the alleged misconduct.
According to a new Morning Consult/Politico poll, these progressive proposals coincide with a 50 percent drop in voter support of “Medicare for All” from January to February.
Thanks to the popularity of the Medicare program, “Medicare for All” maintained a majority of support since November.
But when 2019 started off with a handful of Democrats discussing plans to expand government healthcare programs, voter support quickly fell.
“This is a huge survey,” Adams said. “Fifty-thousand sampled. They discovered that voter ID has absolutely no negative impact on voters — something most of us already knew, a small fringe of dishonest people didn’t know.
They make money off of this. They raise huge sums of money to pay lawyers to attack states that implement voter ID … This is something most Americans agree with, and now we know it doesn’t do any harm.”
The study examined 10 states with voter ID laws, including Georgia and Wisconsin. It found minorities were not negatively affected by the measures, Adams said.
It is the first time that western criminal prosecutors have arrested alleged torturers working for Bashar al-Assad.
The federal prosecution service in Karlsruhe said in a statement: “From April 2011 at the latest, the Syrian regime began to suppress all anti-government activities of the opposition nationwide with brutal force.
The Syrian secret services played a vital role in this. The goal was to use the intelligence services to stop the protest movement as early as possible.”
The Tagesspiegel newspaper reported Wednesday that preliminary government figures provided at the request of the Left Party to parliament showed 1,646 anti-Semitic crimes registered in 2018, up from 1,504 in 2017. Violent crimes rose to 62 from 37.
Chancellor Angela Merkel’s spokeswoman Ulrike Demmer says the government’s position “is fully clear — that anti-Semitism has no place in Germany.”
The Guard is a major economic and military power in Iran, answerable only to the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
While Iran has been enmeshed in the wars engulfing Syria and neighboring Iraq, it largely has avoided the bloodshed plaguing the region.
In 2009, more than 40 people, including six Guard commanders, were killed in a suicide attack by Sunni extremists in Sistan and Baluchistan province. Jundallah, a Sunni extremist group still active in the region on Iran’s border with Pakistan, claimed responsbility for that attack.
Theresa May’s failure to get the Brexit deal through parliament — and her continued failure to build a national consensus around a plan for the U.K.’s future — has led her EU colleagues to conclude they can no longer rely on her.
The idea that the likes of Angela Merkel, Emmanuel Macron and Donald Tusk have been great allies of the U.K. prime minister may sound preposterous in London — even to May herself.
But whatever assistance they offered May to guard against a Brexit ideologue taking her place appears now to be drying up.
Senate Intelligence Committee probe finds no direct evidence of conspiracy between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign.
Suffolk Community College professor Nicholas Giordano joins ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’ to shed light on ‘the Ocasio-Cortez effect’ happening on college campuses across America.
When two people share the same goals, they can disagree – even strongly disagree – and still have a productive discussion about how to reach those shared objectives.
As comedian and author Owen Benjamin explains, the problem with America today is we no longer share the same goals, and that’s tearing us apart.
The Democrats and their co-conspirators in the media spend the last two-plus years assuring themselves that Mueller’s investigation would turn over definitive proof that Donald Trump worked with the Russians to steal the election.
Now the Mueller investigation looks like it will come to an underwhelming close, and the Senate Intelligence Committee says it hasn’t found any proof of collusion.
The Democrats have moved from “Donald Trump definitely committed crimes” to “Donald Trump does stuff that’s not illegal but we still don’t like it.”
This is third-world thuggery. Every American should be horrified that we allow this to happen on our soil.
