After you check out the News and Headlines. I have two excellent articles you should take the time to check out today. One in the Economy section, the other in the Commentary/ Opinion section. Have a great weekend.

In the News:

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — “Vice President Mike Pence’s visit Friday to Colorado to celebrate the anniversary of Focus on the Family comes at a time of change for the religious right during the age of President Donald Trump.

Focus on the Family was once well-known for its involvement in politics. But under new leadership, it has dialed that back in an effort by younger evangelicals to withdraw from partisan culture wars.

At the same time, many older evangelicals have stayed the course, helping Trump become president and the religious right gain political power.” More here.> Pence visits Focus on Family amid change for religious right

“The deadly collision between a U.S. destroyer and a container ship June 17 took place while the freighter was on autopilot, according to Navy officials.

The Philippines-flagged cargo ship ACX Crystal was under control of a computerized navigation system that was steering and guiding the container vessel, according to officials familiar with preliminary results of an ongoing Navy investigation.

Investigators so far found no evidence the collision was deliberate.

Nevertheless, an accident during computerized navigation raises the possibility the container ship’s computer system could have been hacked and the ship deliberately steered into the USS Fitzgerald, an Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer.

A more likely explanation is that collision was the result of an autopilot malfunction, or the autopilot’s warning signals, used to notify the ship’s operators, were missed.” More here.> FREIGHTER WAS ON AUTOPILOT WHEN IT HIT U.S. DESTROYER

“House Democrats, concerned over the fate of their party as they continue struggling to win elections, are increasingly focusing their anger on House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

It’s emerged that twelve Democrats met Thursday to consider a coup against the 78-year-old California Democrat.

Pelosi, for her part, is aggressively defending herself, labeling herself a “master legislator” whose benefit to the party outweighs the costs. She’s even instructed her staff to send her political allies “suggested tweets” to post on her behalf of her leadership.” More here.> DEMS INCREASINGLY DEFIANT: CALLS GROWING LOUDER FOR PELOSI’S SACKING

“A Nebraska Democratic Party official was removed from his post on Thursday after an audio recording surfaced of him saying he’s “glad” House Majority Whip Steve Scalise got shot last week.

Phil Montag, now-former co-chair of the state party’s technology committee, was recorded saying he wishes Scalise, R-La., were “dead.”

“His whole job is to get people, convince Republicans to [expletive] kick people off [expletive] health care. I’m glad he got shot,” Montag said in the audio recording. “I wish he was [expletive] dead.” Article and video here.>  Caught on tape: Dem official says he’s ‘glad’ Scalise got shot

President Trump:

“President Trump on Friday signed Veterans Affairs reform legislation meant to protect whistleblowers while making it easier to fire problematic employees at the department.

The Department of Veterans Affairs Accountability and Whistleblower Protection Act passed by Congress earlier this month streamlines the process to remove, demote, or suspend VA employees for poor performance or misconduct. In addition, it authorizes the VA secretary to recoup any bonuses awarded to employees who have acted improperly.” Article and video here.> Trump signs VA reform bill, following through on campaign promise

“Two years ago, Mahfouz, 39, was running a business on the verge of collapse, selling uniforms to oil and gas workers after the 2014 crash in oil prices. She was desperate to avoid bankruptcy. A devout Catholic, she says, “I turned to God and said, ‘Please help me.’ ” The answer to her prayers, it turns out, was Trump. In July 2015 she was watching his campaign announcement on TV and noticed people wearing campaign hats and T-shirts. She figured he’d need help in merchandising and put together a presentation complete with prototypes of hats and T-shirts and a mocked-up website. She also had the phone number for Eric Trump’s secretary, from the time she spent on the board of his charity foundation.

A week later, Mahfouz was in Trump Tower, setting up her gear in a conference room and pitching Trump staffers. Eventually, Trump stopped by. He liked the website she’d built—and her pledge to make all the gear in the U.S. While Trump already had a manufacturer in California lined up for hats, Mahfouz promised she could find her own vendors to make items including yard signs, decals, and Christmas ornaments. Trump asked how long it would take to get the whole thing up and running. A week, she said. That was good enough. She hasn’t stopped hawking the swag since:

Christl Mahfouz is about to ship the millionth MAGA cap. Hawking the campaign merch between elections is crucial.” More here.> The Woman Behind Trump’s Empire of Swag

WASHINGTON (AP) — “Military chiefs will seek a six-month delay before letting transgender people enlist in their services, officials said Friday.

After meetings this week, the service leaders hammered out an agreement that rejected Army and Air Force requests for a two-year wait and reflected broader concerns that a longer delay would trigger criticism on Capitol Hill, officials familiar with the talks told The Associated Press.

The new request for a delay will go to Defense Secretary Jim Mattis for a final decision, said the officials, who weren’t authorized to discuss the internal deliberations publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.” More here.> Military heads want transgender enlistment hold

Bill O’Reilly: Here’s where the Dems went wrong in Georgia

A excellent read from Mary Katharine Ham , I really hope you take the time to check it out. “The behavior of many on the Left this week sent a message that not only do they not ‘get’ the other half of the country, they don’t want to. That’s a recipe for losing elections.”

“James T. Hodgkinson of Belleville, Illinois arrived in a D.C. suburb several months ago and lived out of his van next to a small local baseball field, which had recently been reported as the site of Republican congressional baseball practice. He took pictures of this otherwise unremarkable locale, and showed up there last Wednesday with two guns and a list of six elected Republicans on his person. He verified with a member of Congress that they were indeed Republicans on the field before opening fire, attempting to murder a bunch of them.

A week later, one of the victims, Rep. Steve Scalise, had been smeared by one national media figure and told his wound was “self-inflicted” by a nightly news anchor while he was still in the hospital fighting for his life. Republicans had been scolded for not changing their views on the Second Amendment in response to being attacked, and national media had either moved on from the story or moved on to scolding Republicans for their reaction to it.”

Media Doesn’t Want to Talk About What Really Happened

“National media covered the incident voraciously for several hours, but within a day, most had moved on to another leak in the Russia story. Less than 48 hours after a multiple assassination attempt on members of Congress, there were no media vans or cameras at the Alexandria baseball field where it occurred. Just for perspective, when Republican staffer Elizabeth Lauten committed the offense of writing something critical of President Obama’s daughters on her private Facebook page, news cameras were camped on her parents’ lawn staking her out for the better part of a week.

When the press was covering the shooting, it was mostly a gauzy, imprecise discussion of how “rhetoric” might have caused it, which means we’re in the business of determining whose rhetoric to stifle to prevent further violence. Wouldn’t you know it?” More here.> Aftermath Of Alexandria Shooting Showed The Left’s Cultural Bullying At Its Worst
