“Disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner was sentenced Monday to 21 months in prison, facing the most severe penalty yet in connection with the sexting scandal that drove the New York Democrat out of Congress, ruined his marriage and became a late issue in the 2016 presidential race.

U.S. District Judge Denise L. Cote issued the sentence in federal court in New York.

“This is a serious crime that deserves serious punishment,” Cote said in a statement.” More here.> Anthony Weiner sentenced to 21 months in prison in teen sexting case

“Oregon’s two Democratic senators are blocking one of President Trump’s judicial nominees with claims that a “longstanding” state tradition mandating that nominees be chosen from their “judicial selection committee” was violated, but the tradition they cite has never applied to picks for the U.S. Circuit Court, according to records viewed by the Washington Free Beacon.

Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley alerted the White House that they would be blocking the nomination of Oregon native Ryan Bounds for a seat on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Bounds is currently serving as assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Oregon.” More here.> Oregon Dems push phony precedent to block Ninth Circuit Court nominee

“Former White House chief strategist Stephen Bannon says conservatives need to work on getting through a “corrupt and incompetent” Republican establishment.

During a speech Sunday at a rally hosted by Phyllis Schlafly Eagles, Bannon said he left the White House earlier this year to help President Trump from the outside, according to The Associated Press.

Trump “needed a wingman to go against the Republican establishment,” Bannon said.

“It’s not the Democrats, we’ll get to them and we’ll beat them, like we beat Hillary Clinton,” Bannon said, the news service reported. “But the first thing you’ve got to get through is a corrupt and incompetent Republican establishment.” More here.> Bannon tells conservatives: We need to get through ‘corrupt and incompetent Republican establishment’

“Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., is still opposed to the Republican plan to reform federal healthcare policy, even after it was revamped late Sunday to entice GOP holdouts.

A spokesperson for Paul’s office confirmed Monday he is still a “no” after reviewing the latest version of a healthcare bill from Sens. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., and Bill Cassidy, R-La. Paul has been a staunch opponent of the legislation, which senators say is their last chance to repeal Obamacare, because it leaves in far too much of the law’s taxes.” More here.> Rand Paul not budging on Obamacare overhaul

“President Donald Trump blamed John McCain on Monday for Republicans’ failure to pass a bill to repeal Obamacare in the Senate, insisting the Arizona Republican is “the only reason” the Affordable Care Act is still law of the land.

“You can call it what you want, but that’s the only reason we don’t have it, because of John McCain,” the president told the syndicated “Rick & Bubba” radio show in an interview Monday. “Without John McCain, we already have the health care.” More here.> Trump: McCain ‘the only reason we don’t have’ Obamacare repealed

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said Sunday he has never received an apology from President Donald Trump for comments Trump made in 2015 that McCain, who was held captive in North Vietnam for more than five years, was not a war hero.

During a campaign appearance in Iowa in July 2015, Trump was speaking about McCain and said, “He’s not a war hero.”

However, only days after the remark put Trump on front pages across the country, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly upbraided Trump for the comment and said he should rethink his words.

“I used to like him a lot. I supported him. I raised a lot of money for his campaign against President Obama, and certainly, if there was a misunderstanding, I would totally take that back,” Trump then told O’Reilly.

“But hopefully, I said it correctly and certainly, shortly thereafter, I said it correctly,” Trump said. At the time, Trump’s comments were characterized as “an apology of sorts.”

Trump also tweeted a welcome to McCain two years later he returned to Washington after surgery, at which time the 81-year-old lawmaker had been diagnosed with a brain tumor known as a glioblastoma.” More here.> Video Disputes McCain’s Claim Trump Never Apologized For ‘War Hero’ Remark

Americas Bias and Hate:

AUSTIN – “The Texas Department of Public Safety said at least two people were arrested at the state Capitol building Saturday afternoon at a protest.

A group of about a 150 people marched from Wooldridge Park in downtown Austin to the capitol where they protested confederate monuments, President Donald Trump, law enforcement and fascism.

“The protestors were antagonized by this one dude who came up, I don’t know where, grabbed … the microphone, and started talking about … the police,” said Nicolas Ortiz, one of the organizers of the protest. “Saying thank you so much, you know I want to thank the police — until it kind of got out of hand. It escalated from there, people started pushing him, I walked around, got caught up in the mix.” More and Video here.> At least 2 arrested at anti-white supremacy rally

World News:

Austrian police say a passenger in a bus with 23 others on board narrowly averted tragedy after the driver lost consciousness, helping stop the vehicle at the point when it was already hanging over an Alpine abyss.

A police statement says the driver fainted Saturday as the bus carrying French tourists was heading downhill from a pasture nearly 2,000 meters (about 6,6000 feet) above sea level, east of the city of Innsbruck. It then gathered speed, repeatedly banging into the mountainside lining the road.” More here.> Austria: Passenger stops driverless bus from abyss plunge

Burnette Chapel Church of Christ member Minerva Rosa said members were talking about the success of their yard sale the previous day when they heard gunshots Sunday outside the building in a Nashville neighborhood. Iana Kasian, 30, was found dead in her home in West Hollywood last year after her worried mother called police.

WASHINGTON (AP) — “Violent crime in America rose in 2016 for the second straight year, driven by a spike in killings in some major cities, but remained near historically low levels, according to FBI data released Monday.

The Trump administration immediately seized on the figures as proof that the nation is in the midst of a dangerous crime wave that warrants a return to tougher tactics like more arrests and harsher punishments for drug criminals. But criminologists cautioned the new numbers may not indicate the start of a long-term trend, noting that violent crime rates remain well below where they were a quarter-century ago.

Still, the FBI said it was the first time violent crime rose in consecutive years in more than a decade.” More here.> Violence in US rises for second straight yea

LAS VEGAS (AP) — “A man in police custody in a Las Vegas hospital emergency room was shot and killed by an officer early Monday after the man took a stun gun from a jail guard’s bag left alone with him in a room and pointed it at a hospital security guard and a nurse, officials said.

The man had been arrested on a felony arrest warrant and was taken to University Medical Center because he was too intoxicated after his arrest to be kept in jail, Las Vegas police Capt. Kelly McMahill said.

The 4:15 a.m. shooting happened when a hospital security officer and a nurse entered the small room and the suspect pointed the stun gun at the officer, McMahill said.” More here.> Police: Man killed at Vegas hospital had guard’s stun gun

“Actor Jesse Williams says the NFL’s pregame national anthem is a “scam” designed to convince “boys and girls to go fly overseas and go kill people.”

“This is not a part of football. This was invented in 2009 from the government, paying the NFL to market military recruitment, to get more people to go off and fight wars to die,” Williams said on “MSNBC Live” over the weekend.

“NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell is such a stickler for adhering to the intricacies of the NFL’s league rule book that he infamously waged a years-long, multi million-dollar battle with the New England Patriots trying to prove that balls used in the 2014 AFC championship between the Pats and the Indianapolis Colts were under-inflated.

After a federal vacated Goodell’s four-game suspension of Tom Brady, Goodell appealed to the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals; by 2016, the Pats appeared to lose their will to keep fighting the case and eventually accepted the penalty (Brady’s four game suspension, $1 million fine, and the loss of two draft picks).

Yet the NFL commissioner, notorious for his unusually massive compensation package — rumored to be north of $40 million/year, making his total compensation of $156 million higher than Tom Brady’s  — is taking a decidedly less fastidious approach to the rules governing the national anthem at NFL games.” More here.> ROGER GOODELL IGNORING LEAGUE’S OWN RULE BOOK IN LETTING PLAYERS PROTEST AMERICA
